Convert Your Ideas Into Achievements:
3 Keys To Avoiding Common Obstacles & Mastering Shortcuts To Success!

You’ve done it!! You’ve finally come up with the one-in-a-million idea that is going to make you millions! You’re feeling absolutely pumped up and motivated, you can’t wait to get started… Fast forward three months. It’s still a great idea, but you’ve been busy, found another idea (or two or ten!!), and now you are stuck somewhere between your ideas and creating reality. In actuality you are no further down the track than you were three months ago.

For many of us, this is a familiar story, so, what happened? More importantly, how can we avoid this common trap that keeps us in a pattern of failure instead of success?

What type of obstacle course do you prefer?

Firstly, it’s important to understand yourself. We all have our favourite barriers, detours, obstacles and hurdles which sidetrack us from our goals. Here are a few of the more common obstructions which keep us from achieving our dreams.

> For some it’s procrastination. All of a sudden cleaning the house, avoiding making a decision or doing some more research into the market (over a few wines!) are much more important than creating the first tangible steps towards developing your successful business, or starting that project that you really want to do. Procrastination is often found at a fork in the road when you desire perfection more than you desire to achieve your goal.

For others the impediment is a fascination with shiny new objects… You know the ones: the best and brightest new business ideas, the latest techno gizmo, the most amazing new internet marketing package ever to be over-hyped and sold to the punters… Each shiny new object grabs your attention for a few minutes, hours or days and before you know it, the time allocated to working on your business has disappeared in a haze of wrapping paper and ribbon, tying you up with time-wasting trinkets.

Closely connected with Shiny New Object Syndrome is becoming incapacitated to act because you are so totally overwhelmed… The negative self-talk keeps you wound up in confusion: “Where do I start? I don’t know how to cope. There’s too much to do. I’m not sure how to do this. It’s all too much, maybe I’ll just find an easier goal…”

You need a simple strategy to overcome overwhelm.

Then there are the problems experienced when you don’t really believe in what you are doing. Maybe the goal is not really yours, maybe it started out as someone else’s dream and you just have to implement it. Maybe you don’t believe in your heart that you can achieve your goal. Or maybe you just think that this goal doesn’t really matter that much anyway (so you may as well forget about it!). Maybe some of these things are true, maybe not. The key is, your motivation will skyrocket by thousands of percent if you can believe in what you are doing with your heart and soul.

The last major trap which keeps us on an obstacle course instead of taking shortcuts towards our goals are the stumbling blocks found in our subconscious mind. The programming which makes us afraid to fail or afraid to succeed. The programming which keeps us thinking that if we just use enough willpower, we’ll get there sooner or later. The programming which has us thinking that ‘everything has to be difficult’, or ‘I’m not smart enough to…’ or ‘I work better under pressure’.

If we want to succeed, then rewiring our brains for success is a critical step. Leaving behind those self-defeating behaviours and patterns will change your life! It’s also known as ‘getting out of your own way’!! Give yourself a holiday – learn to create new neural pathways with habits, beliefs and feelings which will support you in your goals and aspirations. Taking this one action alone can set you on the path to success very quickly!

The Three Secret Shortcuts To Success

If you have ever watched a successful person move efficiently towards a goal you will have noticed three important qualities which set them apart from the average and enable them to achieve their goals in half the time: vision, passion and productivity. You know exactly what each of these abilities feel like, it’s just that, unlike successful people, you have probably never combined these three powerful tactics to leverage your outcomes before!

Successful people have 100% clarity about what their goal is, how they are going to get there, what success will look like and why they are doing it. They know what price they are willing to pay to receive the emotional benefits that are important to them. Their vision is clear and they can articulate it.

Their motivation comes from passion. They are driven to succeed because this goal has personal meaning for them in some way. This does not mean that they are primarily motivated by money. For many highly successful people, the money is a means to an end. Their real passion may be to help others, to make a difference in the world, to gain a personal sense of satisfaction from their achievements or to leave a meaningful legacy behind. The energy in the project is inner directed and driven by enthusiasm, desire and imagination.

The third shortcut is all about action. By being laser-focused on the 20% of actions which will produce 80% of the results, super-successful people achieve quick wins, get a couple of runs on the board and use these to leverage further motivation and action. If you need to drive revenue for your business then that is where you should spend 80% of your time and energy. If you need to get fitter so you can climb Mt Kilimanjaro, then doing the key actions that it takes to create peak fitness is what you should be doing with 80% of your energy…

Action can also be accelerated by using the Ready, Fire, Aim approach espoused by business luminaries such as Tom Peters and Jack Welch. Ready, Fire, Aim is about innovating quickly, failing (or succeeding) quickly and finetuning quickly. For people who have trouble focusing on just one idea, Ready, Fire, Aim can be a great strategy to implement, as it often enables you to move on to something new in a short space of time!!

Your Roadmap to Success: Avoid The Dreadful (But Common!) Traps That Will Kill Your Dream!

The other important strategy that successful people use is to always avoid the common traps which can prevent them from being 100% focused, passionate and productive.

Willpower can be a negative or positive force. If you are ‘forcing’ yourself to do something that doesn’t sit well with you, then it is time to explore what the blockage is and why you are struggling. On the other hand, if you can harness the positive energy of willpower that is well-directed and letting you work ‘in the zone’ by easily breaking through barriers or surmounting obstacles, then willpower can be a very powerful tool.

If you have ever found yourself going round in circles then you have suffered from a lack of focus. This can be the biggest time-waster and will often spell the death of a dream if it is not managed effectively. Remember the ‘ready, fire, aim’ strategy and combine it with a ‘test and measure’ approach for best results.

Don’t believe ‘The Secret’!! Positive thinking without action is also known as getting lucky or wishing your life away. Successful people virtually never sit around waiting to win the lottery. They change their life now – not tomorrow, not next week. NOW! Developing a short action plan that is congruent with your goal is essential for success – remember, quick wins create more motivation.

Ever felt anxious, stressed, worried, resistant, resentful, depressed, guilty, angry, or rebellious in relation to your goal? You may have inadvertently become paralyzed by your emotions. To remove yourself from any negative emotional state related to your goal, ask yourself these questions:

What is the pay-off for me in avoiding this task?

What are the three biggest obstacles to starting/completing this task?

What is the absolute worst thing that can happen to me if I start/complete this task?

Once you have the answers, you will be holding the key to why you may be experiencing self-doubt or self-sabotage. Some people will simply change their behaviour once they understand why, others may prefer to rewire their brain with more productive habits. It doesn’t matter what strategy you choose, as long as you have a strategy that works for you to minimize the impact of negative emotions.

Vision: If you are experiencing any obstacles, find a way to connect your pain to your pleasure. When you identify how you will benefit if you undertake the action you are avoiding, you will more easily be able to focus and achieve your goals.

Passion: Create maximum motivation, flow and passion by committing to remove underlying habits and belief patterns which are keeping you stuck – rewire your brain for success! Now that you can see how your habits and beliefs are controlling your actions, you know that changing these habits, feelings and beliefs is a choice. Your choice! Do you want to live in freedom or in misery? Aim to get tough on your bad habits, and kinder on yourself...

Action: Create a simple action plan: choose your highest priority goal and identify the top three priority actions for that goal which will have the highest impact. Do NOTHING ELSE on your goal until these things are done. OR, get there even faster – choose to delegate, outsource, get a coach or support buddy and focus, focus, focus! Park all those new exciting ideas to the side for later!
